Donut Fenders

High standard fenders for comprehensive protection of different types of vessels

HENGER’s Donut Fenders are advanced marine protection solutions. Featuring a closed-cell polyethylene foam core with a durable polyurethane elastomer shell, this fender provides superior impact absorption and long-term durability.

What is a donut fender?

Donut Fenders, also known as ring fenders. It is a high performance foam fender designed specifically for marine and marina environments. The Donut Fender solves the problem of traditional fenders that do not provide stable protection through its unique floating and rotating design. It automatically floats up and down in response to water levels, ensuring constant contact and protection. At the same time, the fender’s free rotation feature helps vessels align accurately when docking, reducing the risk of collision.

HENGER’s Donut Fenders are constructed with a 100 per cent closed-cell, cross-linked polyethylene foam core that won’t sink, crack or leak. The outer layer, on the other hand, is made of durable polyurethane elastomer reinforced with continuous nylon filaments to provide strong resistance to abrasion. The internal UHMW PE bearing pad design ensures that the gangway rotates freely around the monopile, reducing friction and extending product life.

HENGER’s donut wings are available in diameters ranging from 1,270mm to 4,220mm and pile diameters from 610mm to 2,388mm. Depending on the requirements, the foam hardness, skin thickness, wing diameter and height of our donut wings can be adjusted on request.

Core Advantage

Donut fender internal structure

We use top quality materials and advanced processes to create durable and efficient donut wings:

Closed-cell cross-linked polyethylene foam core: Our foam fenders are constructed with a 100% closed cell cross-linked polyethylene foam core. It ensures that the foam does not sink, crack, or leak, providing efficient energy absorption.

Polyurethane elastomer outer skin: the outer skin is made of polyurethane elastomer and reinforced with continuous nylon filaments. This enhances abrasion and corrosion resistance and adapts to various marine environments.

Central steel core: The interior is equipped with a rigid galvanised steel sleeve that secures the fender plate to the monopile and is capable of withstanding high strength physical stresses.

UHMW PE bearing pads: UHMW PE bearing pads are designed for low friction to meet the free rotation of the fender around the pile with little maintenance.

Key Features

High Energy Absorption & Low Reaction Force:Donut fenders are made with 100% closed cell cross-linked polyethylene foam core. This gives the fender excellent energy absorption. In addition, the closed cell structure enhances the elasticity and toughness of the foam. This improves the fender’s energy absorption efficiency in the event of an impact.

Free Rotation and Shear Elimination: The Donut Fender has a unique rotating design. When in contact with the vessel, it is able to rotate freely and automatically adjust its position in response to changes in water level. This feature helps to align or steer the vessel and effectively eliminates shear. Especially in dolphin steering applications, it significantly improves protection.

Floats with water level for optimal protection: Donut fenders float up and down with the water level, always maintaining optimum contact with the hull. This design provides stable and reliable protection even under severe tidal fluctuations or extreme conditions.

Adaptation to hull movement and roll: The fender design supports the free rolling of the boat along the fender, adapting to the natural movement of the hull. This feature helps reduce fender wear and significantly extends its service life.

Burst-resistant and self-buoyant design: HENGER’s fenders are designed with blast-resistant construction to remain intact during high-intensity impacts. The closed-cell foam filling inside provides strong self-buoyancy and continues to protect the hull and facilities even if the fender is damaged.

Easy Installation & Low Maintenance:Donut fenders are very easy to install. Simply slide it onto the pre-set steel monopile to complete the installation. And its highly durable materials and low-friction component design dramatically reduce maintenance requirements, saving users time and money.

Customised additions: Fenders can be customised with functional additions such as mooring crowns, counterweights and protection nets. Mooring crowns enhance the fender’s retention and stability in environments where extra retention is required. Counterweights are used for underwater applications to improve buoyancy and stability. Protection nets are used in heavy duty applications to further increase durability and longevity.

Application Scenarios

Docking and mooring operations: donut wings make docking and mooring safer for your vessel. Whether in calm or rough water, the fender system provides reliable protection.

Navigational aids: Donut wings are not only protective devices, they are also navigational aids. They act as visual guides and help boats to moor precisely alongside the marina.

Locks and Canals: In locks and canals, donut wings provide cushioning to prevent structural damage to vessels. Whether it’s a large commercial lock or a small recreational canal, donut wings ensure smooth passage.

Versatile berths: Donut Fenders are suitable for all sizes and types of vessels, ensuring continuous protection. In addition, the high degree of customisability reduces the maintenance costs of the berthing infrastructure and accommodates the needs of multi-purpose berths.

Port and harbour protection: Donut wings play a key protective role in ports and harbours. They effectively absorb the impact energy of docked vessels and protect piers and infrastructure from damage.

Bridge abutment protection: Donut wings provide solid protection for bridge abutments against structural damage caused by ship impact. They are particularly suitable for bridges in navigable waterways, extending the life of the bridge.

Corner and Pier Protection: Donut wings are designed to protect vulnerable corners and edges of piers and jetties. They prevent damage to piers during ship operations and ensure long-term stability of the pier structure.

adjustable tidal areas:In areas with high tidal variations, donut wings move up and down with the tide to maintain optimal contact. No matter what the water level changes, your dock structure receives constant, stable protection.
